Autumn Gold – Oct. 2-4, 2009

leavesEllsworth UMC will have a table set up down by the waterfront for Ellsworth’s Annual Autumn Gold celebration on Saturday, October 3rd from 10:30-2:00.

This year the mission that we are raising funds for is Nothing But Nets – http://www.nothingbutnets.com

Nothing But Nets: Send a net, save a lifeNothing But Nets distributes mosquito netting to refugees and others in need in countries that are plagued with malaria. One net (for $10) will cover 3 children at night, and has the potential to save many lives.

Visit the Nothing But Nets website to find out more about the program, and how you can help.

At our table, we’ll have a fish pond (that suspiciously resembles a dry wading pool) for kids to “catch” fish in and then they can put the fish they catch in our net.  Catch 3 fish for $.50. Moms and dads can also put a fish in the net with any donation of their own. And while you’re there, pick up a free mosquito repellent wipe!

S how can you help locally?

1) Come to our table on the waterfront on October 3rd between 10:30-2:00
2) Leave a donation in the collection plate some Sunday (service starts at 11:00)
3) Spread the word about Nothing But Nets to your friends and family; post about it on your Facebook page; write about it in your blog; tell co-workers about it; the list is endless.

Contact Amy Briggs at 266-4347 or nightingale70@gmail.com for more information.

A-MAZE-ing Fall Field Trip – Oct. 4th

corn-mazeJoin us on Sunday, October 4th after worship as we travel to Treworgy Orchards in Levant.

Treworgy is famous for their pumpkins, their apples, but most of all for their incredibly creative CORN MAZES!

This year’s maze is shaped like a butterfly (see image at left).

Entrance to the maze is $5 – and that includes an ice cream cone!

If you’d like to come, meet outside the church at 1:00PM on Sunday, Oct. 4th. Bring your own vehicle, or carpool with one of us. The more, the merrier!

We plan on stopping somewhere in Bangor for dinner after we finish the maze.
