EUMC eNews – February 1, 2009

Here’s what’s going on in the next few weeks at Ellsworth United Methodist Church:

Church Website Now Up and Running
As of this week, you can now give your friends and family an easy-to-remember web address for this website – www.ellsworthumc.org

That URL/link will take them right here, where they can keep up on all the goings-on in the church. If they use RSS feeds, they can subscribe and get an email every time something is posted. It’s a great way to stay connected with folks that are far away!

So tell your friends, put it in your bookmarks, place it in your email signature, but get the word out – the place to be is www.ellsworthumc.org!

Eggs and Exchange Breakfast – Sunday, Feb. 15 –  9:30-10:00
Join us in the fellowship hall for coffee and yummy breakfast fare as Judy Bragg speaks on UM missions that New England conference churches are asked to support.

Boy Scout Sunday – Sunday, Feb. 8
A little information about “Scout Sunday”

The Boy Scouts of America celebrate annually in the month of February the Anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scout program by Lord Baden Powell in England. Scout Sunday was added to the scout celebration around the middle 1940s. Scouting’s anniversary is celebrated on February 8. Scout Sunday is always the Sunday preceding the 8th, unless the 8th is a Sunday, in which case the 8th would be Scout Sunday. The Saturday following February 8th is Scout Sabbath. Scout Sunday tradition was started to make people in church aware of Scouting, and to allow Scouts to live out parts of what is pledged each week. The Scout Law says that a “Scout is Reverent” and the Scouts of all ages promise to do their “Duty to God”. These values strengthen youth character in their family, community and faith.

Join us as we celebrate our scouts on Feb. 8th.

Annual Bowl-A-Thon – Saturday, Feb. 7 – 3:30 Eastward Lanes/Dinner at 5:00 at Pat’s Pizza
This is one of our major fundraisers for the year. Come have some fun and raise some money to support the various missions that EUMC participates in. We take pledges (either a set amount per pin each bowler knocks down or a flat donation amount) and bowl two games. Then we go have pizza together at Pat’s! If you don’t want to bowl, we’d love to have you there as a cheerleader!  Bowling costs about $3.25 per game, and shoe rental is $1. Of course, for those professionals out there, bring your own if you’ve got ’em!

Member Updates

  • June is home and doing well. She’s waiting for the weather to get a little “friendlier” before she ventures out, but would love some phone calls to pass the time.
  • Victor is now officially a Mason. Congratulations, Victor!

Thank You

Thanks to Victor, Judy and Bob for shoveling and plowing and keeping our church safely accessible.
